Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. describe the pathogenesis (virulence factors) of common bacterial and viral pathogens;
epidemiology;
2. explain mode of infections; and
3. describe laboratory diagnosis and treatment of specific bacterial and viral pathogens.
Course Contents
Study of some bacterial and viral pathogens of plants, animals and man with emphasis on those
prevalent in Nigeria. The geographical distribution, isolation, identification, morphology, life cycle,
source of infection, transmission and the host. Ecology and clinical manifestations and treatment
of specific bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens of man.
