Profile of Dr. Yahaya Alhaji Hassan
Dr Yahaya attended Maru Town Primary School, Government Secondary School Anka, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. He holds PhD and MSc. in Accounting and Finance and an MBA, alongside other academic and professional qualifications. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), a member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), and a Certified Management Consultant (Institute of Management Consultants, Nigeria).
Yahaya is a seasoned academic, financial expert, and consultant with over three decades of diverse experience in academia, banking, audit, consultancy, and public financial management. His professional journey began as a Lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda (1989-1991) where he served as Lecturer III in the department of Accounting. Later in 1991 he joined the services of Continental Merchant Bank as credit analyst in the corporate banking division where he rose to the position of senior analyst. He was also the secretary of the budget committee of the corporate banking SBU. From 1994 to 2000 he served as a Senior Manager/ Consultant at Empire Group Limited. In 2004, he was Partner at HDA Audit (Chartered Accountants). He was Principal Manager, Finance and Treasury at New Africa Merchant Bank Plc (2004–2005), and Assistant General Manager, Finance Control at Unity Bank Plc (2005–2006).
Dr. Yahaya transitioned back into academia as Lecturer I at the Department of Accounting, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (2006–2007), and later served as Chief Internal Auditor (2008–2011). He was appointed Bursar at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (2011–2016), and subsequently Bursar at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2016–2021). He also served as Chairman of the Association of Bursars of Nigerian Universities (ABNU), playing a key role in advancing financial management practices across Nigerian higher institutions. At GSS Anka, he held the positions of school Imam and Head Boy
He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Accounting, Airforce Institute of Technology, Kaduna, where he continues to share his wealth of knowledge and mentor the next generation of finance professionals.
Dr. Yahaya has published papers in peer-reviewed academic journals and participated in numerous professional and academic conferences both locally and internationally.
