Mohammed Lawal Ahmadu is a professor of law with research interests in information technology, commercial, corporate and human rights laws, amongst others. He has previously served as Deputy Vice Chancellor, administration and Acting Vice Chancellor at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He has also recently served as Dean of Law and acted for a while as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the American University of Nigeria, Yola.
Professor Ahmadu holds a Bachelor of Laws Upper Second Degree from the University of Jos and a Master of Laws Degree from the University of Lagos. He later obtained another Master of Laws Degree from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom- after being awarded the prestigious ODASSS/University of Warwick scholarship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities in London, United Kingdom. He is a Chartered Company Secretary-being an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, London, UK. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching and PhD in law from the University of the South Pacific in Oceania.
Professor Ahmadu was one-time a Legal Officer in the Attorney General’s Chambers in the Republic of Fiji Islands. He had also served as Professor of law and Director of the Institute of Justice and Applied Legal Studies and earlier as Assistant to the Head of School at the University of the South Pacific, School of Law in Oceania. He also held the position of Pro Vice Chancellor, Emalus Campus, University of the South Pacific.
He has widely published locally and internationally. He served as consultant to the International telecommunications Unions (ITU) and many other United Nations bodies in the South Pacific. In addition to being called to the Nigerian Bar, Professor Ahmadu is also a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of the
Republic of Fiji Islands and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Vanuatu, both being sovereign countries in the South Pacific.
Professor Ahmadu recently completed his tenure as the Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Research and Special Duties based in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
