Rayhaan University Birnin Kebbi, hosts Dr. Bridget Fa’amatuainu on research fellowship visit. Dr. Bridget joins Rayhaan University from Auckland University of Technology –a public university in Auckland, New Zealand; and her work focuses on private law. 

In a formal reception at the Council’s Conference hall, on Tuesday 3rd March, 2026, Dr. Bridget, a distinguished legal scholar was warmly welcomed by the University community. During the reception, her impressive background in private and commercial law, trauma-informed reform, and her collaborative work with the Vice Chancellor of Rayhaan University – Prof. Mohammed Lawal Ahmadu were highlighted. Dr. Bridget also shared her personal journey and professional connection with the Vice-Chancellor, emphasizing that education serves as a borderless vehicle for personal and collective advancement. She commended the initiative of the Proprietor of the University, Abubakar Malami, SAN, CON for his foresight in establishing the University and resources invested for the development of the institution.

In a brief address, the Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the importance of the research fellowship in boosting Rayhaan University’s global image and visibility, noting that the findings of Dr. Bridget’s research would not only benefit the School of Law but Rayhaan University as a whole. He further explained that Dr. Bridget will be engaged in a series of academic activities at the University for weeks and will deliver a public lecture on issues related to crypto-currency and electronic money scheduled for Friday, 27th March, 2026. The public lecture will form part of Rayhaan University’s monthly seminar series. Professor Ahmadu expressed the view that such opportunities are vital and should continue to be leveraged by the institution to strengthen its academic partnerships and international collaborations. This was followed by a gift presentation; and the Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the Proprietor on the Institution thanked Dr. Bridget for the gesture.

The final segment of the event featured an interactive session with some members of staff and law students. During the engagement, Dr. Bridget shares her personal journey and professional insights, encouraging students to view education as a global vehicle for community service. She also offered guidance on navigating legal careers, the importance of mentorship, and the role of policy in human society.

About Dr. Bridget Fa’amatuainu

Dr. Bridget lectures in Law at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. She has previously held roles at the University of Auckland and Victoria University of Wellington, and began her academic career in commercial law at the National University of Samoa. While her research is critical and interdisciplinary, her focus is on private law, with an emphasis on fiduciary duty, vulnerability, and trauma-informed reform.  

Her experience in practice, law reform, empirical research, and gender consulting at regional and international levels grounds her scholarship in evidence-based law and policy reform. She is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand and Samoa and is co-author of Commercial Law in the South Pacific (Routledge, 2024). In recognition of her work, she has been awarded international fellowships and will present research at the Cambridge Private Law Centre this year (2026).

With support from the Travel and Learning Award of the Borrin Foundation, New Zealand, she is undertaking international research fellowships this year (2026) at the School of Law at Rayhaan University and on a similar visit to the National University of Samoa. She will also visit the Cambridge Private Law Centre at the University of Cambridge. While at Cambridge, she will present a research seminar, participate in the Centre’s activities, and engage with UK legal scholars working on trauma and private law. Insights from this work will inform the next stage of her research.
