The University’s learning platform, which was in development for about a year, has been successfully test-run and recently deployed for use by staff and students of the University. The learning management system, which was modelled on Moodle courseware, has been extensively customised to the learning and teaching needs of students and staff at Rayhaan University Birnin Kebbi. The Moodle learning platform integrates the Bachelor of Science degree programmes currently being offered by the University in the following disciplines: Computer Science; Information and Communication Technology; Cyber-security; Criminology and Security Studies; Peace and Conflict Resolution; Mass Communication; Taxation; Finance and Investment Management; International Relations and Diplomacy; and LL. B (Common and Islamic Law). These degree programmes have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC). In the case of the law programme, it has been additionally certified by the Council of Legal Education.
The digital learning platform features: portals for upload of instructional and educational materials in text, video, audio and graphics modes; electronic submission of assignments and marking; marks display for private view of students with accompanying comments, if any. Other features include: news, announcement, discussion, chat and tutorials groups allowing the choice of synchronous or asynchronous communication channels, and interface with any online learning and teaching resources in real time. Importantly, the newly deployed learning management system has been embedded with plug-ins for AI (tools to provide diverse functionalities) and plagiarism checkers. The deployment of the electronic learning management platform is supported by the installation across the University of audio-visual learning and teaching aids- such as projectors, interactive digital boards, internet connectivity, adequate power supply and the necessary technical support to allow for better and easier utilisation of the digital learning platform. This development marks a new phase in teaching and learning at Rayhaan University Birnin Kebbi by improving the digital skills of staff and students and positioning the University to be able to collaborate with and take part in educational and community partnerships ahead.
