MCM 306: Investigative Journalism

Learning Outcomes

Students should be able to:

  1. have in-depth knowledge of the path and history of investigative journalism;
  2. intelligently discuss the ‘dos and don’ts’ of investigative journalism;
  3. analyse the attributes of the investigative reporter;
  4. identify and reflect on the general principles of investigative journalism; and
  5. examine the basic tips for investigative reporting.
Course Contents

The concept and nature of investigative journalisms. Sources and steps for gathering facts and information in investigative reporting. Qualities of a good investigative reporter. Principles of investigative journalism. Crime reporting and sources of crime stories, tips for the crime reporter. Factors responsible for limited practice of investigative journalism
